This year's Tucson show highlighted color and lots of it!
The ink blue sapphire on our homepage is 10.5 carats and comes from Sri Lanka. It is a gorgeous example of color and how this is the year of the big and the bold. Top-end ruby and emerald will also continue to sell well this year with demand staying high.
Besides the top three: emerald, sapphire and ruby, there were colorful spinels, tourmalines and garnets that were impressive. The best in show this year were the color change, purple and tsavorite garnets. Red spinels and rubellites (intense pink tourmalines) were also show stoppers and people looked for red, pink and purple gemstones. These three colors dominated the show in terms of popularity.
White southsea pearls also made an appearance and were sought after by many for earrings and single drop pendants accented with colored gemstones and faceted black spinels.
On the crystal side, the hot items were heart shaped amethyst geodes. Whether you bought them for their healing powers or will make them into jewelry, they are spectacular and come in a wide range of colors and sizes.
